Jeff Kingston，The name fans should know

還記得上一篇談到如果水手還要繼續補強外野/DH，應該只會是AAA-MLB等級還有Tommy Everidge，這個說法一天後正式被挑戰挑戰，Pro Ball NW的Jon藉著解讀Mariners Fan Fest 的兩天裡助理GM Jeff Kingston對球隊交易的看法的前後發展來推敲春訓之前到底還會有誰戴上水手球帽（Eric Byrnes的新水手生涯看來要延到再下一篇了）：

星期六：

“We’re still looking at a couple more pieces here we  feel we’re pretty close on.  Still looking at another right handed bat, maybe help out at DH and first, and then add another pitcher.  Hopefully we’ll have some more of those items checked off our list here the next week.”

「我們還在尋找多一點的補強，感覺已經非常接近完成。還在找一位右打者，可能支援DH和一壘，然後加上一位投手，希望下週我們能把更多的代辦事項做完。」

星期日：

“We are still talking to some right handed bats that are out there on the market right now; we hope to land one here in the next week or so. I think our vision is someone who can help Ken Griffey in the DH spot, maybe spell Casey Kotchman at first base at times against left handed pitching; that’s where we see this player fitting in.  I’m not sure he’s going to be an impact type bat, but someone who can really help out against left handed pitching and give Grif and Kotchman days off at times. As far as the pitching, we are still trying to land a pitcher as well… we do anticipate landing a pitcher sometime in the next week.”

Jon的解釋：

• “和市場的一些右打者溝通”代表是自由球員市場，當然還有交易市場，但交易不會是跟打者溝通，是和球隊溝通
• 在講右打者的時候主要是講到幫助小葛打DH，Kotchman是次要地位，代表那位右打者不一定是一壘手（這裡他還提到因此Bradley可以有更多上場的機會，我想是從Kingston聽起來並不對小葛的上場時間很具信心）

Jon想到的答案是Ryan Garko和Jermaine Dye，前者有不錯的長打能力，守備普通、能對付左打者，風險不高。Dye在年紀上已經頗具風險，但是長打能力似乎沒有減弱（去年全壘打平均距離406呎) 而且對左打威力十足(去年.894 OPS，生涯 .871)。他是外野手，不過今年有表示如果球隊需要守一壘他也願意。像所有的球員(Johnny Damon剛好是其中之一)一樣，Dye絕對值得球隊放手一搏，但是要花對的價錢。據報導他最近才拒絕了芝加哥小熊隊提出一年3.3M的合約（而那些錢似乎因此進入Nady的口袋）。

現在到讀者時間了，Jack Z 在Fan Fest 顯然一樣忙著給專家和球迷驚喜，個人來看我必須同意Jon的猜測。自由球員市場剩下適合的右打者並不多，Reed Johnson接近和道奇簽約、水手顯然對Garrett Anderson的競爭沒有興趣，Garko和Dye是在Damon熱降溫後最合理的選擇。至於那位預計在下週簽下來的投手會是誰呢？Kingston並沒有指明是SP還是RP，後者可能性比較低，但如果是要找第五位SP，那至少也要在Luke French、Jason Vargas還有Garrett Olsen的等級之上，有待這幾天密切觀察。
